Sharmin Rahman Rauma also known as Sharmin Rauma or Rauma Rahman (born 11 June 1977) is a Bangladeshi Journalist and TV presenter who is considered to be one of the most successful female journalists working currently in Bangladesh. She is a skilled broadcast journalist whose 17 years of experience inculdes first-hand knowledge of print media, TV, Radio and online journalism, news & programme production, presentation, script writing, reporting, video editing, and leading production team performing editorial role.
Education: Sharmin Rauma completed her Master of Arts in English from National University of Bangladesh in 2000.

Background: Sharmin Rauma was born in Dhaka on 11 June, 1977. Her father A.K.M. Bazlur Rahman was a businessman and her mother Sajeda Rahman was a housewife. During her school years, sharmin Rauma was a child artist of Bangladesh Television, the state-run media and took part in many porgrammes such as; ‘Alor Pothey’, ‘Ongkur’, ‘Kisholoy’, ‘Notun Kuri’, etc. Later, she became an enlisted artist for the state-run TV and Radio in 90’s.
Sharmin Rauma is currently playing the role of the Senior Journalist Team Manager at the BBC, She is also a famous New & Current Affairs TV show in Bangladesh. She joined the BBC in March 2013 as a freelance News Presenter. In 2014, she covered World Cup Football for BBC Bangla Radio. Later that year, she joined the BBC Bangla team in Bangladesh and became a presenter of the country’s popular TV talk show—BBC Bangladesh Sanglap which focuses on contemporary issues in the participation of studio guests and audience. She also played the role of producer, presenter and reporter for BBC Bengali Radio and online. In 2015, she joined BBC World Service as a TV producer. She carried out various responsibilities such as, planning, scripting, producing packages, presenting programs, and interviewing high-profile personalities including Home Minister, Information Minister, Advisors to PM, diplomats, the World Bank CEO, and many more.
Prior to joining the BBC, Rauma had already been a well-known News Presenter of ATN BANGLA, a prominent TV media of the country where she worked from 2003 to 2009 and 2011 to 2014. She started her career with News presentation in 2002 as well as a host for the compiled weekly news programme “GOTO SHAAT DIN” on CHANNEL i. Rauma had also been the host of ‘Shubho Shondhya’, an audience feedback programme on CHANNEL i. She also hosted Musical Entertainment Show ‘Music Moment’ on another TV Channel of the country, BANGLA VISION. She left the country in the end of 2009 and moved to London to work as a News Producer & Presenter of BANGLA TV UK, a TV media based in London. There she worked for daily News as well as a popular programme ‘Law & Order: Your Rights’, a TV show to help the Bengali community in Britain to know their legal rights. After coming back to Bangladesh from the UK in 2011, she started working for a national English daily ‘The Independent’ as a sub-editor where she carried out responsibilities at central news desk. Later, she started working as a freelance News Presenter for the BBC’s Bengali section Radio in Bangladesh in 2013. Being a media personality, Rauma has been appearing as an MC for various corporate events & concerts regularly since 2001.

A Musician: Apart from being a journo, Rauma is also a versatile singer, who has received training in both Indian classical and western classical music. She completed a five-year course in Nazrul Sangeet and Classical music at Bulbul Academy of Fine Arts (BAFA). Rauma also took lessons at the Dhaka International Music School, where she learnt to play the piano alongside western classical vocal music. Rauma’s first album, titled Swapner Diganta Chhuye, under the label of G-Series, was released in 2006. Renowned singer-composers Manam Ahmed, Ayub Bachchu, Fuad Naser Babu, SI Tutul and Bappa Mazumder composed songs for the album. Her second solo album Swapnajatra was released in 2009. The album, which was composed prominent composer Manam Ahmed, especially the title song, was well received by the audience. She worked in multiple mixed albums with other Bangladeshi singers too. Rauma has also lent her voice for playback music in almost 50 films. She is well known as a Bangladeshi singer performing at many TV programmes and Live events including Bangladesh Television (BTV), the state-owned Television network in Bangladesh and other prominent TV channels of the country. She also took part in various concerts in home and abroad including India, UK and Australia.
